Water treatments

Micro filtration systems

They are equipment capable of mechanically separating suspended solids by means of a sieve. Micro filtration membranes can separate particles of different nature, such as: suspended solids, fine particles, colloids, algae and microorganisms such as bacteria, within a size range:0,1 µm – 10 µm. (1.000 µm = 1 mm).

These equipments are used in food production, for cold sterilization and pharmaceutical products, for the elimination of certain organisms from the water and as a pretreatment for Nanofiltration and Reverse Osmosis. The filters of traditional irrigation systems (sand or rings) generally only manage to filter up to 140 MESH which is equivalent to 105 µm.

Water treatments

Ultra Filtration systems

Ultrafiltration membranes have a pore size that allows them to retain particles of 0,04 y 0,1 µm (1.000 µm = 1 mm), that is, they can separate molecules and macromolecules, depending on their molecular weight.

EThis type of equipment can remove organic substances from the water, for example trihalomethanes (THM) which corresponds to volatile chemical compounds that are generated during the water purification process by the reaction of organic matter, not yet treated with the chlorine used to disinfect. Trihalomethanes (THMs) are commonly called chlorinated compounds, which are carcinogenic substances.

Nano Filtration systems

It is an intermediate process between reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration due to the levels of separation it allows and the application pressures required. Nanofiltration membranes are microporous in structure and can retain particles with a size of 0,1 y 0,001µm (1.000 µm = 1 mm) This allows the majority of molecules to be separated from the water, although those with a lower molecular weight are partially retained in the membrane.

These equipments allow the separation of organic substances (proteins, sugars), microorganisms, some multivalent salts and also allows the elimination of heavy metals, such as nitrites and nitrates. It also removes the color of the water and is the pretreatment of Reverse Osmosis.

Water purification

Inverse Osmosis

EThis membrane process retains virtually all the smaller molecules of particles and salts, including monovalent salts, while water molecules can freely pass through membranes. These membranes are hydrophilic so that water molecules are easily attracted and by diffusion they are transported through the polymeric structure of the membrane.

Therefore, the compounds that constitute the permeate, that is, those that manage to cross the membrane, must have a certain affinity with the membrane material, since it is a decisive factor so that they can dissolve in its structure and subsequently diffuse through her. Due to the above, in the Reverse Osmosis process, the membrane material is of utmost importance, unlike the Nanofiltration and Ultrafiltration processes.
