The evolution in composting
Composting-based water treatment system
Wastewater treatment systems based on natural processes are generally considered low-efficiency.
Vermifiltro® combines the composting technique and the latest technologies in water treatment, combining in a symbiosis that rescues the advantages of each technology, for example, the Vermifilter allows to reduce high pollutant loads at a low cost of energy and advanced aeration techniques (MBR ) allows the strictest standards to be met by treated water.
Vermifiltro® potentiates a technological synergy between two traditional biological treatment techniques (advanced aeration and adhered biomass)
with the aim of obtaining a robust purification system that synthesizes the best of both systems, in order to meet the strictest purification standards.
It is a trickling filter based on composting, which corresponds to an exothermic aerobic biological process, in which microorganisms adhere to a substrate
natural fixed, in which a large colony of aerobic bacteria is generated that helps to degrade soluble and insoluble organic matter, it also has the main characteristic that the bacterial support can be
easily get in different geographical locations.
The purification in a Vermifiltro® is carried out, in the first place, by retention of the materials in suspension and by adsorption within fibrous plant tissue or by mineral means. In addition, the bacterial flora support medium it can be considered as a living environment in evolution and in it a bacterial activity is maintained and develops that gives rise to digestion biological of organic matter.
During the Vermifiltration process, the soluble and insoluble organic matter present in the contaminated water is biotransformed under aerobic conditions, through oxidation-reduction reactions catalyzed by microbial enzymes. In this process, the microorganisms present use organic matter as a nutrient for their development, producing their decomposition (mineralization), even simpler organic and inorganic molecules, being the humification process, the step in which new macromolecules are created, from simple molecules, formed in decomposition. The whole process produces mainly heat, CO2, H2O and humic compounds.
Advantages Vermifiltro®
* It is not sensitive to excess water on the surface of the filter bed.
* It has a high control of microbial activity, which is essential to maintain high efficiency.
* The support material has a high useful life, since there are no annelids to degrade it,
Its operation is simple, as it does not need to be continuously forked.
* It does not generate sludge, since it works with suspended solids not greater than 150 mg / l.
* It is a first cousin of the low rate Peat Percolator Filters, traditional and proven technology in the national and international market.
